St. Francis Senior Ministries, Inc. is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community with operations in senior independent living, assisted living, short-term skilled nursing and long term nursing care. Since a majority of our residents in the nursing part of our operation are Medicaid dependent, we must work more efficiently and effectively to control costs and increase revenues. On September 1, 2009, St. Francis Senior Ministries, Inc. contracted with Fabrizio & Shultz, LLC to perform the duties of Chief Financial Officer for the Corporation. Fabrizio & Shultz, LLC has become a vital business partner with us not only in helping to control cost through eliminating the need for a full time Chief Financial Officer on staff, but also by providing business advice and valuable financial knowledge to our Organization. The staff member assigned to our account has shown a tremendous knowledge of efficient and effective accounting methods and provides us with answers to keep the Organization ahead of the game with assistance in finance, strategy and financial analysis. We are looking forward to a continued business relationship with Fabrizio & Shultz, LLC.

President Obama announced a deal Monday evening to extend the Bush-era tax rates for two years, as well as other tax breaks and unemployment benefits, after Republican and Democratic congressional leaders forged a compromise in meetings with administration officials.

However, the deal to extend the Bush tax cuts even for those making more than $250,000 a year met with criticism from some Democrats who accused the president of giving in to Republican tactics and violating one of his campaign pledges.

Homeowners making energy-saving improvements this fall can cut their winter heating bills and lower their 2010 tax bill as well. According to the Internal Revenue Service, last year’s Recovery Act expanded two home energy tax credits: the Nonbusiness Energy Property Credit and the Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit.

The Nonbusiness Energy Property Credit equals 30 percent of what a homeowner spends on eligible energy-saving improvements, up to a maximum tax credit of $1,500 for the combined 2009 and 2010 tax years. The cost of certain high-efficiency heating and air conditioning systems, water heaters and stoves that burn biomass all qualify, along with labor costs for installing these items.
